This Turtle Boy Tour is for the nature lovers – the Cascades on the Worcester/Paxton line. If you like hiking and/or photographing nature, this is for you. Check the maps, pick your trail, and after your hike, get something good to eat.
The Cascades is 156.59 acres consisting of Cascades West, Cascades East, and Cascading Waters. It’s a great place to go for a quick walk in the woods or to take an all-day adventure. As a photographer, I enjoy visiting throughout the year. The Cascades are beautiful in every season and there’s always something interesting to see.
There’s a nicely done trail map and more information about the trails posted on the Greater Worcester Land Trust’s website.
After you’re done with your hike, there are several great places to grab some food all within a very short drive. If you want a full meal, Nancy Chang, Bushel and Peck, Tatnuck, and Nu Kitchen (formerly Nu Cafe) are all good choices. On The Rise Bakery and Cafe are also close if you just want a snack.
What are you doing Monday night?
If you’re looking for something fun and different, go to Ralph’s Rock Diner for the Dirty Gerund poetry show.
Dirty Gerund – Purveyors of the Finest Ruckus.
The Dirty Gerund, hosted by Alex Charalambides and Nicholas Earl Davis, is a high energy event with music, art, open mic and great local and guest poets.
The Ruckus starts every Monday night at 9pm at Ralph’s Rock Diner and lasts (according to their site), “until we run outta words”. Make sure you check dirtygerund.com for details about guest poets and any special treats they have planned. And, when the weather is nice, they move the show outside to the patio.
The venue is a bar so it’s 21 plus. If you haven’t been, Ralph’s is an experience on its own and not to be missed.
Ralph’s is also known for having great food. Nicholas Earl Davis and I agree that you can’t go wrong with the burgers or the chili there. We suggest that you go to Ralph’s early, get dinner and then grab a drink and watch the show.
Other Food Suggestions
Some other good options for dinner in the area are Thai Time, The Boynton, or The Fix (call for reservations). If you’re not in the mood for dinner, stop at WooBerry Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt for dessert instead.
